Old York Road Temple- Beth Am is a welcoming Reform congregation located in Abington, Pa (a suburb close to Philadelphia) more than 500 households and 85 students in our Mensch Lab/Beit Noar Religious School.
We are in the business of crafting souls, comprised of building character, and creating mensches (people of integrity). And rather than simply passing knowledge on to our students, we prefer to co-create and jointly explore with them.
We are seeking a passionate, motivated, and creative part time Director of Education. That individual would serve as part of the highly collaborative Beth Am leadership team with clergy and fellow senior staff. The Director will supervise our Mensch Lab (K-6) as well as our Beit Noar (7-10) program, a faculty of 10 teachers, and support staff.
A successful applicant will be a talented and committed educator and administrator with very strong leadership, organizational, and relationship building skills and a commitment to inclusive Jewish education. This applicant will have strong Judaic and Hebrew knowledge, deep understanding of Jewish pedagogy and curricula, and skills in program and fiscal administration as well as faculty recruitment, supervision, and development.
This is a part-time, 12-month appointment of 20 hours/week.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Lead the Old York Road-Temple Beth Am Religious School consistent with its mission and values. Overall administration of the religious school includes recruiting,
hiring, evaluating, and retaining highly qualified religious school staff.
• Develop and maintain a fiscally sound budget in collaboration with the Executive Director, Clergy and Board of Directors.
• Serve as part of a congregational senior leadership team with clergy and senior staff.
• Oversee Religious School sessions in person on Tuesday afternoons/evenings and Sunday mornings during a traditional school year.
• Coordinate youth programs and manage the teen madrichim (classroom assistants) program.
• Plan and oversee several grade-level family education programs on Sunday mornings and other programs as desired. Coordinate and plan with Cantor 3-5 erev Shabbat services with student participation.
• Inform and maintain strong relationships with teachers, staff, families, and the larger Beth Am community via formal (e.g., calendar, emails, meetings) and informal communications.
• Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with members of the Old York Road Kehillah to facilitate a strong Jewish community and continued growth in religious school enrollment and Temple membership.
• Work in partnership with a newly formed Religious School Committee, a group of dedicated family members, clergy, and staff who work to support the success
of the Religious School Director and Religious School programs.

SKILLS AND CHARACTERISTICS:
• Knowledge and experience in Reform Jewish and Hebrew Education.
• Knowledge of contemporary best practices and experience with classroom teaching and management preferred.
• Previous school administrative experience preferred.
• College degree in related field.
